Nomuka was one of the closest islands to the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’apai volcanic eruption. Almost all of the clean drinking water, in Tonga, is collected rainwater. Much of this water was contaminated from volcanic ash. This investment will ensure that more water is available when the next extreme weather event occurs.
Our partner The Friends of Tonga (FoT) have donated rainwater cisterns which have been installed across Nomuka, located in the Ha’apai island group! FoT provided funding for the installation of water collection systems and aquaculture farming in Ha’apai.
